I am currently a Senior at Elon University in North Carolina. I am majoring in journalism with emphasis in photojournalism with a second major in international studies with a focus on Latin America. My minors are in Spanish and multimedia authoring.
I am also heavily involved with Elon’s Pacemaker-winning student newspaper The Pendulum where I have held several different positions, and am currently the photo editor. Aside from taking photos for the paper, I also write regularly and produce a variety of multimedia content for the website.
Photojournalism has been my primary focus while at school I have had 3 internships. My first internship was with the Burlington Times-News in North Carolina where I was a photography intern. I shadowed staff photographers as well as worked on assignments on my own. My second internship was with the Atlanta Business Chronicle, which was primarily shooting portraits. I learned a great deal about lighting techniques through this internship. My third internship was with the Santiago Times in Santiago, Chile where I studied abroad for a semester. I worked as a reporter, photographer and multimedia producer at this internship and learned a great deal about being versatile, working in a foriegn country and foreign language reporting.
Along with photojournalism, travel and Spanish are also two interests of mine. I have taken Spanish for the past 10 years and spent the past semester in Chile. I have also traveled extensively through school and travel programs as a student. Latin America and Southeast Asia are the two areas that interest me the most, and I would like to do some type of work there at some point in my life.
In the future I definitely want to be involved in the journalism industry. I am interested in doing any type of journalism, but international reporting with an emphasis on multimedia is what interests me the most. I believe that with the prevalence of the internet as a news medium, computer based journalism is going to be extremely important in the future.
